Inspiration Behind the Design

As the ‘Āina Mauna Legacy Program Land Manager for the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, Mike Robinson was one of the authors of a 100-year plan restoring 56,000 acres using “outside the box” thinking to save the area from overgrazing, feed local people, and systematically replant the lost forest over the next century.

Mike was a longtime member of the HFIA Board and helped initiate Hawaii’s Woodshow to showcase the artistry and talent of Hawaii’s woodworkers.

Drawn away from a career in engineering, Lloyd Jones became partner in Martin & MacArthur manufacturing koa furniture and served as HFIA President for many years.

Respect for the history and salvaged woods, particularly from Maunawili, inspired Paul Brennen and his woodwork. A frequent participant in Hawaii’s Woodshow, every piece had a story behind its creation.

We honor all of our forestry community members by sharing these stories.
